The big numbers on a blender box are the ones you use least

A blender title shouts peak horsepower, peak watts and total jar ounces. The numbers you live with sit lower on the page. A 2 HP claim works out to 1,492 watts, but the same listing's spec table says 1,380. One jar here is sold as 75 oz and blends 32 oz at a time. And 1 of the seven picks is taller than a common 18 inch cabinet gap. Tell the checker who you blend for and what you make, and it matches you by the fine print.

Blender size and power checker

A rule of thumb, ours. It uses 16 oz per serving and only the numbers on each listing: the most the jar blends at once, the watts in the spec table, the height with the jar, whether a tamper is in the box, and whether the maker says the jar takes hot liquids.
